group Y and Transworld Business have teamed up to bring you a panel of top brand and retail experts to discuss this emerging market as featured in the June issue of Transworld Business and what it means for the industry.

Panelist include:twb0610_cov_r1-001

Moderated by Marc Fiore, publisher of Transworld Motocross

A multi-billion-dollar lifestyle and clothing industry has sprung up around boardsports, but motocross has been a bit late to the party, primarily due to the lack of distribution of softgoods in core moto retailers, leaving a huge market underserved. Today that gap is closing fast as brands and retailers see the massive opportunities and look to span the parallel lifestyles of young, energy drink and adrenaline fueled customers.

Motocross draws nearly 50,000 malleable fans to races on any given weekend. Supercross has an estimated 32 million followers in the U.S. alone. The three largest motorcycle parts and accessories distributors net over one billion dollars in sales annually. There is an estimated seven to ten thousand motorcycle retailers, and those retailers and the millions of enthusiasts are distributed around the country in areas that are traditionally hard for surf, snow, and, to a lesser extent, skate to infiltrate. Factor all of this in, and you begin to wonder why it has taken so long for moto to get so much attention from retailers and brands looking to fill the gaps, expand distribution, and grow sales in a post-bubble world.

Looking out on the horizon, moto is the next it thing for action sports. Acquisitions, licenses, and distribution deals will be peppering the news for the foreseeable future.
